  Rajnikanth, also known as Shivaji Rao Gaekwad, is an Indian film actor and cultural icon who has appeared in more than 150 films, predominantly in Tamil cinema. He was born on December 12, 1950, in Bangalore, Mysore State (now Karnataka), India. Rajnikanth worked as a bus conductor before starting his acting career in Tamil cinema in the 1970s. He made his debut in the Tamil film Apoorva Raagangal (1975) directed by K. Balachander. He gained popularity with his roles in films like Mullum Malarum (1978), Baasha (1995), Padayappa (1999), and Endhiran (2010).
